Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep Benjamin Okezie Kalu, emphasized the importance of collaboration among consultants and Secretariats of the Senate and House Committees on Constitution Review in order to ensure a successful conclusion to the ongoing exercise.

In his address at the joint retreat of the secretariat and consultants to the Senate and House Committees on the review of the constitution, Kalu highlighted the need for effective collaboration to meet the desires and yearnings of Nigerians.

He called on stakeholders to revisit previous amendment proposals that were not passed by the National or State Assemblies, or were not assented to by the President, and to consider how these issues can be reintroduced and addressed. Kalu stressed the importance of continuous engagement with all Nigerians to develop a constitution that addresses longstanding issues such as State Police and Special Seats for Women.

Kalu commended previous Assemblies for their comprehensive work on constitutional amendments and expressed confidence in the collaboration between the Senate and House of Representatives committees. He also mentioned plans to engage President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on various issues.

The joint retreat aimed to enhance synergy among consultants and secretariats to drive the constitution review process towards outcomes that reflect the aspirations of Nigerians. Kalu underscored the importance of involving all stakeholders and the public in the constitutional alteration process to address key issues facing the nation.
