Activist lawyer Madubuachi Idam has written to the National Assembly, calling for the swift passage of a bill to amend the Nigerian Constitution.

The bill seeks to permit independent candidates to run for electoral offices, aiming to reduce selfish political influence and crises in various states.

Idam cited the political crises in states like Rivers as reasons for the National Assembly to consider the bill.

He argued that political parties now serve the interests of a few politicians rather than upholding party manifestos.

Idam emphasized that passing the bill would curb overbearing influence and reduce violence and insecurity in Nigeria.
