Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has announced that the team will boycott their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya, initially set for Tuesday, October 15. This decision comes after the Nigerian players and coaches were stranded at Al Abraq Airport for over 15 hours.

In a scathing post, Troost-Ekong condemned Libyan authorities and appealed to the Nigerian government for intervention. “We urge our government to intervene and rescue us,” he stated.

Troost-Ekong declared, “As captain, along with the team, we’ve decided not to participate in this game.” He also called on CAF to investigate the situation, emphasizing, “Let them have the points if they condone this behavior.”

The team has expressed concerns about traveling by road, citing safety risks, and doubts about the quality of accommodations and food. Troost-Ekong emphasized, “We respect ourselves and our opponents when they visit Nigeria. Unintentional mistakes happen, but deliberate actions have no place in international football.”

The team’s stance remains firm, refusing to continue with the qualifier under these circumstances.
