AFCON 2025 Qualifier: Libya May Get Three Points as Super Eagles Mull Boycott

The Super Eagles are threatening to pull out of their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Libya, potentially handing the host team three points and three goals. This dramatic turn of events follows the Nigerian team’s harrowing experience at Al Abraq Airport, where they were detained for over 15 hours.

Captain Troost-Ekong voiced his outrage, announcing that the team has unanimously decided to boycott the game. He urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to scrutinize the incident and take decisive action.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is arranging to fly the team back home. If the boycott materializes, Nigeria may face disciplinary action from CAF. Conversely, if Libya is found culpable of mistreating the Nigerian team, they will face severe consequences, including fines.

The Super Eagles had previously secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the first leg, thanks to Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s decisive goal. However, the return leg in Benina now hangs precariously in the balance.

CAF will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and mete out appropriate penalties or sanctions based on their findings.
