Inspired by Donald Trump’s historic win in the US presidential election, Nigerians are calling on former President Goodluck Jonathan to make a comeback in the 2027 presidential election. Trump’s victory, considered one of the greatest political comebacks in American history, has sparked hopes among Nigerians that Jonathan could replicate this feat.

Jonathan congratulated Trump on his election victory, describing it as “impressive” and expressing optimism about Trump’s presidency advancing global peace and stability ¹. However, Nigerians quickly shifted their attention to Jonathan, pleading with him to return to power and rescue the nation from its current economic hardships.

Some Nigerians expressed regret for not supporting Jonathan during his presidency, citing the country’s current struggles. Comments included:

  • OGA Nigerians are sorry for not listening to you at that time… Life is hard now, please come back
  • Put your house in order and retrieve Nigeria. You owe
  • Sir, you still have one more term to serve Nigeria. Nigerians will massively vote you back in
  • Learn from Donald Trump’s victory. Nigeria needs a Savior, this suffering is too much” ¹

Nigeria’s economic outlook remains challenging, with GDP growth projected at 2.9% and inflation expected to reach 29.5% by year-end ¹. The country faces pressure points, including naira depreciation, rising inflation, and interest rates.
