South African singer Tyla stole the spotlight at the 30th MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester, UK, claiming three prestigious awards. She edged out Nigerian talents Asake, Tems, Rema, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr to secure the Best Afrobeats Artist award.
Tyla’s winning streak continued as she took home the Best African Act honor, surpassing Ayra Starr, Asake, DBN Gogo, TitoM & Yuppe, and Diamond Platnumz. Her third award was for Best R&B Artist, defeating American icons Kehlani, SZA, Tinashe, Usher, and Victoria Monét.
The evening culminated with Tyla’s captivating acoustic performance of her hit single “Water.” Conversely, Nigerian sensation Ayra Starr fell short in all four nominated categories: Best African Act, Best New Artist, Best Afrobeats Artist, and Best Push.
