In a bold move to enhance public safety, the Nigerian Police Force has unveiled an ambitious plan to reduce the country’s crime rate by 50% in 2025. This directive, issued by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, is part of a comprehensive strategy to revamp the nation’s security landscape.
The initiative was announced at the 5th Annual Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Abeokuta, where Egbetokun emphasized the need for a proactive and intelligence-driven approach to policing. He noted that this vision aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s security agenda and demonstrates the police force’s commitment to tackling insecurity.
Egbetokun also highlighted the success of intensified operations and collaborative efforts with the military and other security agencies in combating organized crime. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, urged the federal government to conduct regular evaluations and vetting of police officers to ensure their mental and physical fitness for duty.
