Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has addressed the comparison between her and South African artist Tyla. Both were nominated for the Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys, which Tyla won.
In a BBC Radio 1 Xtra interview, Ayra Starr downplayed the comparison, calling Tyla her “home girl” and “G.” She emphasized unity over competition:
“Tyla is my homegirl, that’s my G… Less noise, more music. Let’s support each other… Afrobeats and African music is about to take over the world, and we have to come together to do that. No need for comparisons.”
Ayra Starr’s response promotes camaraderie and highlights the growing global influence of African music.
