The Benue State House of Assembly’s Deputy Speaker, Hon Mrs Lami Danladi Ogenyi, has called for a thorough investigation into the killing of Peter Aboh Onminyi, a young man from her constituency, by unidentified members of ‘Operation Zenda’, a joint task force of the Benue State Police Command.
Onminyi was reportedly killed at his Makurdi residence by the task force members, with the motive remaining unknown. The Deputy Speaker visited the deceased’s family and urged the Benue State Commissioner of Police to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind the unjustified killing.
Accompanied by other lawmakers, including Hon Agada Ismail Samuel and Hon Ikyan Douglas, the Deputy Speaker also visited the office of the Commander of ‘Operation Zenda’ to demand justice for the slain youth. She appealed for calm among the youth in Benue state, promising that justice will prevail.
The incident has sparked tension in the state, with many calling for accountability and an end to extrajudicial killings. The Deputy Speaker’s swift response and demand for investigation are seen as a positive step towards ensuring justice for the deceased and his family.
