The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors are convening an emergency meeting today to address the leadership crisis rocking the party. The crisis escalated on Friday following the suspension and counter-suspension of party leaders.
Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum suspended National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade. In response, the Ajibade faction suspended Damagum and national secretary Samuel Anyanwu.
Factional PDP National Chairman Alhaji Yayari Mohammed, backed by Atiku Abubakar, emerged and resumed office on Sunday despite a court order restraining Damagum’s removal.
The governors are divided, with four supporting Damagum (Wike’s camp) and six backing Mohammed (Atiku’s camp). Two governors remain neutral.
The meeting aims to resolve the lingering crisis threatening the party’s unity and future elections.
