On May 24, 2024, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Edo State government announced a N300 million grant to support Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state. This initiative aims to promote economic growth and development in Edo State.
Governor Godwin Obaseki expressed his gratitude to the UNDP for their collaboration, which has enabled 3,000 business owners to benefit from the grant. He emphasized the importance of this partnership in addressing socio-economic challenges and enhancing the state’s economic landscape.
The UNDP’s commitment to inclusive growth and MSME development aligns with the state’s vision for economic prosperity. This grant will empower small businesses, which are the backbone of the local economy, to innovate, expand, and create jobs. This will, in turn, position Edo State as an attractive investment destination and strengthen the economic resilience of these businesses.
By fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, the state is creating economic opportunities and promoting self-reliance and sustainability among its citizens. The Managing Director of ESIPO, Kelvin Uwaibi, acknowledged the significant progress made possible by the UNDP grant and encouraged more investors to consider investing in Edo State. He also urged Edo people to invest in their homeland, emphasizing the potential for cooperation and dedication to achieve great results.
Anita Eribo, Acting Managing Director of the Edo State Skills Development Agency, also commended the UNDP for their support.
