The English Premier League has unveiled significant rule changes for the upcoming 2024/25 season, set to commence on August 16, 2024, with Manchester United facing Fulham in the opening match.
Notably, the number of substitute players allowed to warm up simultaneously has increased from three to five per team, aligning with the existing five-substitute rule.
Additionally, the league will implement a multiball system, utilizing 15 balls to expedite gameplay. Players will be required to collect replacement balls from designated cones, with ball assistants restricted from returning balls to players, except in specific circumstances.
Referees will now send off technical area staff for deliberately delaying play, while players in the technical area will receive yellow cards for similar offenses.
The calculation of added time has also been refined, with time only added when the delay between a goal and the subsequent kick-off exceeds 30 seconds, potentially reducing stoppage time significantly.
