The devastating floods and landslides that have ravaged Kenya since March have claimed 238 lives, according to the latest figures from the government. In the past 24 hours alone, eight more people lost their lives to the raging waters, bringing the total death toll to 238, with 75 others still reported missing.

Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura announced the updated death toll, adding that 47,000 households have been displaced and a total of 286,011 people have been impacted by the heavy rains and flooding across the country. The affected individuals are in dire need of food, shelter, and medical attention, with many forced to seek refuge in temporary camps.

The government has pledged to prioritize the safety and well-being of those affected, with plans to establish temporary housing for the displaced individuals. In response, the government has issued a stern warning to individuals living in riparian areas, ordering them to vacate the 30-meter radius surrounding rivers immediately or face forced removal.
