The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed the apprehension of three Chinese citizens and two Nigerian nationals suspected of engaging in illicit mining operations in Nasarawa State. This disclosure was made by Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development.
The arrest was executed by the ministry’s mining marshals, who conducted a recent operation based on credible intelligence. The suspects were caught operating an unauthorized mining site located at Rafin-Gabas, Agwada, in Kokona Local Government Area.
According to Alake, the suspects confessed to mining without lawful authorization since December 15, 2021. The extracted minerals included fluorite, zinc, lead, and tin.
To date, over 200 illegal miners have been apprehended, with approximately 140 undergoing prosecution nationwide. The Federal Government reaffirms its commitment to reforming the mining sector and ensuring a secure environment for legitimate investors.
