The Super Eagles narrowly defeated Libya 1-0 on Friday at Uyo’s Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Despite controling possession, Nigeria struggled to penetrate Libya’s defense. The visitors employed delay tactics.
“The match was dull and uninspiring,” said Nwosu Michael Izuchukwu. “Dele-Bashiru’s goal secured the win, but it’s concerning.”
Izuchukwu highlighted Victor Osimhen’s absence, citing his leadership and pressing intensity.
Boniface, Osimhen’s replacement, has started three qualifiers without scoring. Coach Eguavoen attributed this to slow decision-making.
Izuchukwu disagreed: “Boniface is misused. He’s exceptional, but the game plan must accommodate his differences from Osimhen.”
Eguavoen’s tactics have drawn criticism. With two wins and one draw, his approach requires improvement.
“The Iwobi-Onyeka-Ndidi midfield trio isn’t working,” Izuchukwu noted.
Nigeria faces Libya again in three days. Izuchukwu urges the NFF to decide on Eguavoen’s future.
“They must choose between trusting him or appointing someone else to achieve balance before the 2025 AFCON.”
