Renowned Nigerian sprinter, Tobi Amusan, suffered a shocking setback in her quest for Olympic glory, failing to secure a spot in the final round of the women’s 100m hurdles at the Paris 2024 Games.
Amusan, who had been touted as a strong contender for the top prize, finished third in her heat with a time of 12.55 seconds, narrowly missing the cutoff for the final eight.
Despite her impressive performance in the earlier rounds, Amusan’s chances were eclipsed by a strong field of competitors, including Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent and France’s Cyrena Samba-Mayela, who edged her out with faster times.
The disappointing outcome marks a setback for Nigeria’s Olympic aspirations, as Amusan had been considered a prime medal prospect. The final will feature a talented lineup of athletes from around the world, including Grace Stark of the USA, Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, and Nadine Visser of the Netherlands.
