The House of Representatives criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for delaying the 2025 budget proposal submission to the National Assembly.
Lawmakers argued this delay undermines their authority, citing Section 88(2)(b), due to non-compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007.
Clement Jimbo moved the motion, highlighting the Act’s role in ensuring prudent resource management, macroeconomic stability and transparency.
Section 11(1)(b) requires the Federal Government to submit the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) at least four months before the next financial year.
Committees on National Planning, Economic Development, Appropriation and Finance must ensure compliance within two weeks.
The House urged President Tinubu’s administration to submit the 2025 budget proposal promptly.
