Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has bravely shared her journey of overcoming a serious illness that forced her to delay the release of her highly anticipated debut album. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Tems revealed that her debut album was initially scheduled for release in 2021 but was postponed due to a mysterious illness that required surgery and six months of recovery.

Despite the setback, Tems refused to give up. She channeled her energy into creating new music, releasing her sophomore extended play, ‘If Orange Was a Place’, instead. The experience of fighting her way back to health has greatly influenced her new music, which she describes as embracing life as a warrior. “Being a warrior is about not giving up,” she said. “Even if they cut your leg, you walk on your knees, you fight on your knees using what you have — and that’s good enough.”

Tems’ much-anticipated and long-awaited debut album, ‘Born In The Wild’, is finally set to arrive on June 7, 2024. To add to the excitement, she will also embark on her first headline world tour in June, marking a triumphant return to the music scene. Fans and supporters are eagerly awaiting the release of ‘Born In The Wild’, which promises to be a testament to Tems’ resilience and artistic growth.
