Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State recently provided an update during the second edition of the “Ipade Imole” forum, revealing that no loans have been taken since he assumed office 16 months ago. This decision stems from Adeleke’s commitment to governing with existing resources without resorting to external borrowing.
Highlighting his administration’s pledge to operate within the state’s available resources, Adeleke emphasized the responsible management of inherited liabilities from the previous government. He unequivocally stated that no funds have been borrowed under his leadership and cautioned against misinformation regarding this matter.
In addition to financial prudence, Adeleke outlined notable achievements across various sectors. The administration has initiated efforts to revamp the mining sector, combat illegal mining activities through the establishment of a task force, and enhance healthcare services by renovating and upgrading over 100 Primary Health Care Centres. The successful implementation of the Imole medical outreach program has benefitted over 50,000 individuals, including the enrollment of 29,000 pensioners in the State Health Insurance Scheme.
A significant milestone includes the awarding of a substantial N1.3 billion water rehabilitation contract for the Ora Water Works Scheme in the Igbomina region, demonstrating a commitment to improving essential infrastructure. Adeleke’s administration has also embarked on an ambitious infrastructure development agenda encompassing the construction of flyover bridges and road dualisation projects statewide.
Beyond infrastructure, the governor highlighted the administration’s focus on agricultural development, women empowerment, youth initiatives, and fostering creativity in the state. Adeleke underscored the overarching goal of his administration to spearhead a comprehensive revitalization and usher in prosperity for Osun State. This holistic approach to governance reflects a dedication to addressing multifaceted challenges and fostering sustainable growth across diverse sectors to ensure the state’s enduring progress.
