The Zamfara State government faces a daunting challenge with phantom employees infiltrating its civil service. State Head of Service, Barrister Ahmad Liman, characterized the situation as alarming due to the unknown actual number of civil servants.
Ghost workers predominantly populate the healthcare and education sectors. A startling example emerged in a hospital where merely two legitimate healthcare professionals existed among 22 individuals receiving salaries.
To rectify the issue, the government initiated a comprehensive verification process. This exercise aims to accurately determine the number of civil servants, paving the way for the implementation of the N70,000 minimum wage by year-end.
